The cooperation area of the Transnational Cooperation Programme Madeira-Azores-Canary Islands (MAC 2007-2013) comprises the Autonomous Regions of the Azores and Madeira and the Autonomous Community of the Canary Islands. In addition, the Transnational Cooperation Programme Madeira- Azores-Canary Islands sets cooperation with the third countries of its geographical and cultural surroundings as one of its lines of action, as has been taking place with Northwest Africa and Latin America in the programming period 2000-2006.
The overall aim pursued by the strategy adopted by the Programme consists of raising the levels of development and socioeconomic integration of the three archipelagos by promoting a strategy based on the impetus of the knowledge society and sustainable development and improving the levels of socioeconomic integration of the cooperation area with the countries of its geographical and cultural surroundings.
